Facebook is the world’s most important social network today and will undoubtedly remain so in the future. Created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg as a university science experiment, Facebook has reaped such success that it has spread around the world, with more than 2.3 billion users accessing the network each month. In this article, we will show you step by step how to effectively log in and access your Facebook profile/account.

In short, millions of people enter the social network every day in order to see the news and learn about their social circles, accessing, for this, both the official page www.facebook.com and the applications available for Android and iOS. However, sometimes problems appear when it’s time to enter the account, such as not being able to find the option to log in.

For you to enter, log in or access your Facebook account using your computer or mobile phone, you only need to enter the official page www.facebook.com and enter your data: email address (or phone number) and password.

Click on the button above to log in to Facebook through the official page www.facebook.com. If you wish to use your phone, log in through the following link:

For sure, Facebook wouldn’t be the same without mobile apps. Millions of users use their phones daily to log in to Facebook, because the experience through the application is superior thanks to the fact that it provides a shortcut to the photos taken with the mobile phone, the notifications, the location, among others.

  1. If your phone does not already have the app installed, click one of the following links to download it:
  2. Open the application.
  3. Enter your login details: username and password.
  4. Click on “Sign in”.

When you log in for the first time, you will see a prompt suggesting a one-touch login. This function makes it unnecessary to enter your email or mobile number and password every time you log in using the app. But beware! Only select this option on your device.

Facebook also offers a lighter version of its app called Facebook Lite, which is available to download from the official app shop: the Play Store if your device is Android or the App Store if iOS. Here are the links to download Facebook Lite with your device:

So what are the differences between standard Facebook and Facebook Lite? Does the way you log in change depending on which of the two you are going to use?

The first difference you’ll notice between the two is in the interface and appearance. The Facebook Lite logo, for example, has white filler instead of the standard emblematic blue colour. Moreover, Facebook Lite takes less time to install since it takes up less space on your phone, consequently making the application run faster.

When using Facebook Lite to log in and browse the social network, it becomes even clear that data usage is saved. Therefore, when it comes to slow or unstable mobile networks such as 2G, Facebook Lite’s compatibility is superior to the standard application. At this point, one of the advantages that Facebook Lite brings is that it accepts older Android versions (even on less sophisticated phones), since it requires a smaller amount of resources to operate.

If you want to save storage space on your mobile phone, luckily there is a version of Facebook designed for mobile device browsers that offer almost the same experience as the app. You will be able to log into your account with any mobile device that has a web browser installed. The following is the procedure for logging in through the phone browser, excluding the need to download and install the app.

  1. Open the phone browser (e.g. Chrome) and then go to https://m.facebook.com/
  2. Enter your login details: email or mobile number and password.
  3. Then click “Sign In” to finish.

Although Facebook’s mobile site may seem deficient next to the app, at least in terms of ease of navigation and loading speed of images, using the mobile browser instead of the app to access the social network has some advantages.

Advantages of using the mobile phone browser to sign in

The main pros of dismissing the app in favour of using the browser to log into Facebook are as follows:

Optimized space: as mentioned before, the Facebook app (other than Facebook Lite) takes up a lot of space on your phone. Also, even if you have the app, you will still need to install Messenger to send messages to your Facebook friends. The mobile browser version, on the other hand, lets you access both the social network and messaging without having to install a separate app.

Data usage and performance: If you want to save your data plan, the solution is to uninstall the application and just use the mobile browser. The Facebook application consumes much more data in the background compared to the desktop version. By the way, the Facebook site is lighter since the browser requires fewer resources and has an option to clear data if browsing becomes slow or heavy.

More efficient battery: The less applications your phone has installed, the longer your battery will last.

One-touch login

Facebook will offer this option once the login is completed using one of the methods explained above, thus opening up the possibility of logging into the Facebook account with the current device, without having to re-enter the login details.

It is always good to check that you are using your own device when accepting this option, as it will save the account data on the device in question.

Solving problems signing in to Facebook

Although the process itself is simple, problems can appear when it comes to logging into your account. The most common problem is undoubtedly forgetting your password or email address.

If you have lost your password: go to www.facebook.com/login/identify/ and enter your email address. You will then receive a message in your email inbox from Facebook containing a link to reset your password. Alternatively, you can enter a mobile number that is linked to your account. In this case, you will receive an SMS containing the security code to enter on the next page.

If accessing the email and mobile phone is impossible: in such a situation, recovering the account will only be possible if you have previously defined your list of trusted contacts. Search the Facebook Help Center on how to recover an account through your trusted contacts: https://facebook.com/help/213343062033160

If your browser won’t load the Facebook page: try another browser and also check your Internet connection. Check that the antivirus or firewall installed on your computer isn’t blocking access to the site.
