How Not to Be Found in Facebook Searches

There are undoubtedly a lot of Facebook users, but not all of them want to appear actively on this social network. In fact, there are many who use the service to spend a few minutes looking at pictures and updates from friends and family, but without ever interacting or posting any content.

For the same reason, they prefer to be substantially “invisible” in Facebook searches. Of course, it is possible to do this in an absolutely simple way.

How to hide your Facebook profile in searches

Let’s start with the primary objective of this article: to reduce searches for your Facebook profile. Before we begin, however, we anticipate that, for convenience, we will perform the steps directly from the desktop website.

  1. Access Facebook from the desktop website by adding your credentials
  2. Click on the downward-pointing triangle icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Continue to “Settings and Privacy” and then “Settings”.
Facebook Settings
  1. Click on “Privacy” in the left column
  2. Scroll down to the “How people find and contact you” section
  3. Click on “Edit” to the right of each setting and select the level of privacy you want to add (everyone, friends, friends of friends, or just me).
Allow search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile
  1. Click on “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to redirect to your profile?” and uncheck the box “Allow search engines outside of Facebook to redirect to your profile” to prevent your profile from also appearing on Google, Bing and other search engines searches
  2. Return to home

Unfortunately, at least for the moment, you can’t remove your profile from Facebook search (unless you disable your profile, but then you can’t use Facebook in any way).

Restrict tags on Facebook photos

By default, anyone can tag any Facebook profile on their photos, unless you customize the preference from the Privacy-related settings.

  1. Log in to Facebook from the desktop website by adding your credentials
  2. Click on the downward-pointing triangle icon in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Continue to “Settings and Privacy” and then “Settings”.
  4. Click on “Profile and tagging” in the left column
  5. In the “Tags” section, click on “Edit” to the right of the two available options
  6. Choose how to manage tags and which users will be able to reach your profile from other users’ public photos.

  6. Click on ‘Edit’ to the right of all the options to edit
  7. Choose the level of privacy you want to add (everyone, friends, friends of friends, or just me) for each of them
  8. In this case, you can even create a “Close Friends” group so that posts are visible only to certain people.
