I am an old user of Sponsored Tweets when it was not specially launched in India. Recently I found Sponsored Tweets has made a partnership with UTV. Sponsored Tweets was in limelight when Kim Kardashian signed up for Sponsored Tweets, and any one was able to join SP if he has some of the followers and 60 days old account, rules may same.
You can visit India homepage for SP here http://india.sponsoredtweets.com/.
With this new partnership many new Indian users will join sponsored tweets. But new cloths can not make you a new person or can not change your personality. I have my experience with Sponsored Tweets, I tweeted sponsored tweets and sent some of the users to sponsored tweets. But my experience with SP was not good at all. However this can be good for others. As you can see they have made partnership with UTV and UTV is a movie production company, so it can bring many top celebrities to SP but it has no Indian advertisers, all the advertisers are still foreigners. You can see many of the top twitter users in India have joined sponsored tweets and all the previous users are in this section, here is the page: https://utv.sponsoredtweets.com/tweeters.
Shashi Tharoor like controversial writer and politician have joined this network and he is top in this list. And many other have joined this network, some of the names are as Lara Dutta, Mahesh Bhupati, Poonam Pandey, Ram Gopal Verma, Shamira Reddy, Neetu Chandra, Sophie Chadhary.
In future many other users from different fields will join, in future the agency may find Indian advertisers as well but the main thing is user satisfaction.
In my opinion Sponsored Tweets is not for small users, it is for celebrities, because they can benefit from it,

Yes, I agree with you. Sponsored tweets cannot afford by an individual/small users. It is more helpful for the celebrities like film stars, politicians, etc.
