Twitter hashtags are in existence from very start of Twitter, still many people don’t use them, I am also one of them. If you don’t know the importance of something, you ignore it or keep it aside. Twitter hastags are one of them, which are ignored by most of users, because users don’t know how useful are hashtags and how to use them.
One of my previous post about hashtags basics is here.
I have find out why people don’t use hashtags:
Many of people still don’t know about Twitter’s hastags.
Manu people don’t know how to use hashtags.
Many people don’t think Twitter hashtags are useful.
Many people don’t need hashtags because their communication circle is very limited.
Many people use hshtags so much and making hashtags useless, because:
They take it light and fun, something they have found which others do not.
They want to create a topic of their each tweet.
They think their tweet will reach at wide public range.
There are some situations where you can use hashtags:
1- If you think something is very important ( a message) and people should know it, then you have to create a topic, topic will start with a “#” following the topic name without any space, e.g. #Iranelection.
2- If there is any topic which is already wired, and you want to support that or add something more interesting in that thread, simply add that topic name at the end of your tweet.
3- If you wrote about any famous people, place, event or anything, you can use hashtag without any hesitation, e.g. #AishwaryaRai, #India, #Twitter etc…
4- If you have a close group of friends and make some hot conversation occasionally/frequently, so you can share info and no one can guess. Only you have to search for that hashtag.
In the last:
You can use more than one hastag, suppose you wrote an article about Aishwarya Rai, then you can use #AishwaryaRai, #Bollywood, #Celebrity, #Actress.
If you use hashtags wisely, you can use them in your every tweet.

After knowing the importance and viral effect the hashtags can create to our tweets, its almost irresistible to use them. But it is not possible in every tweet because of the 140 char limit.
I have said that hashtags can create viral effect to your tweets coz there are some twitter users to RT your stuff if they contain a particular hashtag and here is an example of it
–> http://twitter.com/hashwordpress Retweets the people who talk about #wordpress. There are around 1000 people following this account. So, your tweet can reach all of them if you use the hashtag #wordpress
So don’t miss out on using hashtags.
And if you know more accounts that do this type of Retweeting stuff you can mention here.
