A few months ago when Facebook launched it’s Facebook Connect, in the same period Google also launched Google Friend Connect. Many people are using Google friend connect but many of them don’t know how to use it better way.

What is Google friend connect? On Wikipedia has been created a good page about GFC, here is a little part as follows.

“Google Friend Connect is an online service by Google that allows users on the Internet to connect with their friends on different websites.“

If you do not have self hosted blog, then you are lucky only if you use blogger for blogging, and if you use blogger it is very easy to use GFC because there is no need of installation, as you install all other gadgets in your blogger blog you can add GFC too. If you are have a self hosted blog method is same for all other platforms, but I am familiar only with wordpress platform, so how to install it here is a good link for Google friend connect Plugin.

When you are done, take first step and visit GFC home page: http://www.google.com/friendconnect/home/
When you visit your GFC home page you will see this type of page after log in.

You can use GFC as social bar, and members gadget, these two usage are popular among user but you can use GFC for commenting feature, ratings and reviews, events, recommendations on your site, clack point for chatting, foot prints so you can know who visited your site, polls answers and open social demonstration.

When you login to GFC to connect TechShali, you will see this default image, this means you can join TechShali by GFC if you have gmail, yahoo mail, open ID or more provided options you can use.

After connecting with GFC you can edit your GFC settings.

After clicking on option one new pop-up window will open as you can see in screen shot. Click on more options.

Now you will see this kind of window.

Here you can manage your friends and sites you have joined but basics option is important for you. You can set any of available option to connect with your GFC profile as I have connected my Google profile, I have seen many peoples do not use thes feature, I think perhaps they do not know about it.
