There are many ways to get backlinks for your blog but I can define them in two main sections
(1) You get them yourself (2) Others give you.
Another two ways to get backlinks are:
(1) the right way (2) the wrong way
I am going to discuss about the right way.
There are some kinds of backlinks you get or you try to get.
(1) Free (2) paid
(1) Dofollow (2) nofollow
(1) backlinks from your own website (2) backlinks form other websites
Both kinds of links are different and important. I am going to posts about free backlinks.
Why backlinks?
Backlinks are necessary for good ranking in search engines and high page rank.
Post How to articles and lists:
this is the best idea to get dofollow and free backlinks. If you write how to articles and lists of web services in bulk you are likely to get backlinks.
Leave comments on other blogs:
perhaps it is the second most useful idea to get backlinks for your website without any hassle. You may find high quality blogs to leave a comment and blogs should be on same niche that will be very useful if you can find some dofollow blogs that will be very nice.
Write guest posts:
This is another solid idea to get free backlinks for your blog. You can write guest posts on other blogs and the blog owner will give you a backlink to your website.
Post articles on article submission sites:
This is also a good idea to get backlinks for your website. Each writer who writes an article he gets a backlink form each article he writes in about author section.

Give free downloads:
perhaps you would not believe but this idea is suggested by Matt Cutts of Google. If you give free download you will become a news maker so other blogger will write a post that you are giving something free.
Give backlinks from your own blog:
You can do it by giving related posts or you can attach another post link in one of your post, it is wonderful idea to get backlinks.
Use social media sites:
Using social media sites can give you so many links; I have a larger list of social media sites.
Visit Indian social networking sites
Use microblogging sites:
Now a days microblogging sites in full swim you can use them for backlinks.

Use online services to get backlinks:
Perhaps you would have not got what I want meant to say. There are many websites that bloggers use to check website backlinks, website value, and website popularity etc. You would not get backlinks form there if you do not check once.
Submit your blog in blog directories:
There are many blog directories there you can submit your blog and get a backlink.
Take part in forums:
Posting your problems in forums and giving solutions to individual problems is a good idea. You can get link with your name for your website and you can post your website links as a solution (if you have any).
